Is PPF the goose that lays the golden eggs?
Absolutely.
It almost sounds too good to be true. Is PPF really such a strong mark et that you can make serious money with it? Yes. And no, you do not have to be scared off by stories about risks.
As long as you know what you are doing.
It is true that Paint Protection Film (PPF) is more expensive than PVC wrapping film, and that alone holds many companies back from getting started. One mistake and there goes your profit. But what if you could actually make a lot of money with it? What if you discovered how accessible the PPF market really is? Let’s compare the negatives with the positives. You might be surprised. All the positive aspects are covered in separate articles in this edition.
Negative experiences and prejudices
There are three reasons why people quit before they even get properly started:
- A job went wrong, the result was poor, the customer was angry, the money was gone. This almost always happens due to a lack of installation knowledge. Polyurethane film (PPF) is installed completely differently from PVC wrap films or polyester films. Underestimate that, and you will run into problems.
- Not enough marketing or sales skills. If you cannot clearly explain to a customer why PPF is a logical and functional solution, sales will suffer. No solid arguments = zero sales. While it is exactly those few strong points that make the difference. In our training sessions, we help you with arguments and sales techniques.
- Not targeting the right audience. Are you not working with private owners of high-end cars or car dealers, but mainly with commercial vehicles? Then PPF is still interesting, just in a different segment. Your approach needs to be adjusted. We can help you with that.
Positive points and advantages
The profit margin with PPF is almost hard to believe for many companies. But these are the facts:
- Extremely high margins. Customers who choose PPF want to protect the value of their paint and have the budget for it. Luxury cars, exotic models, yachts, you name it. For that audience, the installation price is almost secondary. See article: Earn 1,000 per hour.
- Easy to install, provided you work with quality film and know what you are doing. With the right film, PPF installation is straightforward and repositioning is possible without hassle. You can correct, work calmly and still deliver a tight finish. Proper training and guidance at the start are important, but after that it becomes routine.
- Low investment required. A clean workspace, a handful of tools and good cleaning products. That is basically all you need to get started. Want to do even better? Read the article: Considering starting with PPF?
- Relaxed pace, perfect result. PPF is not a race. The margin gives you the space to work neatly and in a controlled manner. And if you use pre-cut patterns, you are not only faster, but you also save around 25% in material.
Is installing PPF difficult?
No, not at all. In practice, we notice that signmakers and wrappers sometimes need a little more time to truly feel comfortable with PPF compared to window tinters and detailers. Logical; it requires a bit more patience, wet installation and sometimes unlearning old squeegee habits. But once you have seen how it is done properly, it clicks immediately. And from that moment on, it is simply full speed ahead.
